The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded a three-year contract to Strategic Operations Inc. to enhance the atmospherics of existing and future military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) facilities, Home Station Training (HST) areas and ranges.
The San Diego-based company specializes in realistic training environments for military, law enforcement and homeland security personnel.
Strategic Operations Vice President Kit Lavell said existing MOUT, HST areas and surrounding ranges are equipped with streets and buildings, but the atmosphere lacks the cultural realism generated by props such as furniture, billboards, food, crops, colors and facades.
The atmospherics project is intended to simulate an urban environment to improve training for Marines and others at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Quantico, Va.; Camp Pendleton, Twentynine Palms, Bridgeport and China Lake, Calif.; Hawaii; and Okinawa, Japan.
